Sugar Sugar

28 Weeks

Anyone who’s been around for my previous pregnancies knows my history with the glucose tests - as in I’ve never passed the 1 hour test and have had to take the 3 hour test each pregnancy (which I passed for both E and G!)

So this time I talked to one of the doctors about my history and whether jumping to the 3 hour test would make sense. She agreed, and so it was scheduled during a time I needed labs drawn anyway. So that’s how I found myself enjoying my day off in the lab of the local hospital.

It’s not the worst, actually. Since the hospital is open all day, I can wake up and head there immediately, which means I don’t have to spend a lot of my day not eating. I pack some snacks for after, read a book, it’s almost comical how much I’m used to these tests.

The good news is that I passed the 3 hour test this time around too. In fact my numbers were almost exactly what they were for the last pregnancy - at least my body is predictable? And no one needs to take away my ice cream or frappachinos any time soon.

The bad news is that I’m severely anemic again. It’s a little funny since we have a team of doctors freaking out about a 10.5 hemoglobin level in one of our children when mine is down in the 8s. What can I say, they got it from their mama. (Who got it from hers, etc etc).

It’s not that I haven’t been trying. There’s obviously iron in my daily vitamin, and I take supplemental iron during the week as well. I’ve been cooking with spinach and even putting it in my smoothies. My body always struggles with this though. We’ll see what the next steps are - either more iron or maybe getting admitted for an IV infusion, depending on how my next set of tests come back. But hey, at least I don’t have gestational diabetes!

Other than that, I’m doing okay. Officially in the third trimester so I’m a bit slower, a bit more tired (which could again be the anemia) but doing okay. Heartburn is here, but not as bad as it was with G’s pregnancy, so maybe we’ll get a little bald baby this time. I’m also hopeful if I get the anemia under control the tinnitus might fade a bit (but there’s no guarantee there either) - I’d really love to be able to hear again!
