Easter

So as E tells it, “Our Easter Mouse comes and hides all the eggs!” I’m not sure when it changed from a bunny to a mouse, but either way, eggs were hidden. I saw a tip from a different mom who bought eggs in two different colors for her children, to ensure there was no fighting during the egg hunt. Of course it was after we had gotten out all of our multicolored eggs, but I figured if there was a lot of conflict this year, it could be a backup for next year.

Instead, both G and E were pretty cooperative. Tom and I had to help G a bit to make sure he was finding eggs, but if we told E that a certain egg needed to go to his brother, he was okay with it. By the end, I think the count was 15 to 19 or something like that. Close enough for me.

Even though neither Tom or I really felt on the ball this year, I think the kids had a lot of fun. They were thrilled with the candy (pez and mini m&ms were huge hits, smarties not as much) and the few treats they got in their basket. I had already decided that a big meal was a no go, partly because I didn’t feel like cooking it, and partly because I won’t eat ham or lamb, so I’m not sure what I should cook for Easter. Instead we did a low key lunch of pizza, sweet potato fries, rolls and carrots. The kids were completely uninterested and focused on their baskets and candy, but I was quite excited about the fries and rolls!

I did have matching shirts for the kids, which G cried hysterically at. Seriously bawling in Tom’s arms after I put the T-shirt on him. Little does he know that some parents expect their kids to dress in ridiculous fancy dresses or button down shirts and suit coats. (Although maybe G would have preferred that?) I guess I should have stuck to matching PJs though. It’s all G wants to wear these days. I’m ready to start sending him to daycare in PJs every day, just to avoid the fight. Less laundry for us!

I’m hopeful it’s our last major holiday in such strict quarantine, but I still felt the sting a bit. I’m just so ready to be out of this house, and it’s almost harder now that I can count the days. We’ll get there!
