Easter

Sometimes I wonder what our Easter will look like ten years from now. What things will have stuck as traditions, and what things will look different? It equal parts fun and frustrating trying to decide how we celebrate our holidays each year. Is there special food that we eat? Places we visit?

This year we celebrated at home with the five of us. The kids had their matching PJs, eggs were hidden, and everyone ate a lot of candy. We did color coded eggs again, which seems to work well for us. It makes things less competitive, but also allows us to make some eggs easier to find than others. F’s eggs were all just thrown on the floor or other easy to reach spots, like the couch. She was able to find all of her eggs, and she had so much fun putting them in her basket and carrying them around. E’s were the hardest to find, and took him the longest to find all of his eggs. But since they were color coded, he was able to pause his hunt, eat some breakfast and finish later.

We didn’t do any special food for Easter, since I kind of blanked on any holiday foods. We debated making ham, but quickly decided not to when we all decided we don’t really like ham. And after that we couldn’t think of anything appropriate, so we just treated it like a normal day as far as food was concerned.

The weather was the nicest we’ve had all year, so we spent most of the day outside, which was a perfect way to counteract all the sugar that was eaten. We did another mini egg hunt in our yard, which may be my favorite way to ensure the kids go outside. No one wanted to go out until they looked out the window and saw brightly colored eggs in the yard. We ended the day at a new playground that E had been begging to go to for a while.

We also managed to get our bunny pictures done this year. Our normal place had closed, which was a bummer. At the last minute I found a new photographer that was doing something similar and we took a chance and booked a session. I’m not sure how much longer this tradition will continue - it seems equally likely the kids will outgrow it or get more excited about holding the animals. I can never tell. I was sure F was going to love the bunnies since she’s so obsessed with our cats, but it didn’t translate. I think because being in a new setting makes her a bit nervous maybe?

Either way, another Easter done. We’ll see what next year looks like.
