The fall holiday season is moving right along.
As much as I’d love to hit pause, it’s not going to happen, so let’s just jump right in.
As always, I tried to make Thanksgiving as low key as possible. I had bought some pies and a pumpkin roll from a fund raiser at the elementary school, and figured that would be good enough for Thanksgiving, and then was told that we NEEDED a pumpkin pie. Which is fine, I love pumpkin pies too, so the kids made one on the Wednesday they were out of school. Turns out F is really into baking and loved the whole process. And everyone loved the pie.
Usually our food making is pretty low key on Thanksgiving, since we usually have a small gathering of people who don’t care too much about what they’re eating. This year we ended up with a slightly bigger group of people, who were still easy going but maybe cared a little be more than I do. So we did the thing and made the food and it all came out lovely.
The children made a turkey cheeseball, we all watched the parade, and I made everyone take a group picture while wearing either matching pjs or silly hats. We colored a lot, and we played endless games of go fish. Sounds like a normal Thanksgiving to me?
I actually made the family play a game after dinner, too. Game is said loosely, since it was mostly pick a cup and hope you get a prize, but it was still a fun way to keep everyone engaged (including the littlest!) and together after the meal.
Overall it was a successful holiday, which is saying something when you have 3 little kids home for 5 days in a row!
