A Baa Baa Birthday Party

Somehow we managed to pull off a small celebration for G again, just days before Christmas. It’s such a hard thing - in the middle of getting ready for Christmas and wrapping presents and figuring all that out, we suddenly have to double decorate and make a cake and have him feel special.

For months he’d been asking for another train birthday cake, like he had for his birthday last year, but then suddenly with a month to go he asked if he could have a baa baa birthday again. I told him that surprisingly he’d actually never had a baa baa birthday before, at which point he demanded it.

It’s true, it’s not our first baa baa cake though. When I let the kids pick a theme for Tom’s party a few years ago they’d landed on that, but we’d never done it specifically for G. So we found all the sheep decorations we could, and put them all over the house. He’s specifically asked for baa baa balloons on the tree too, and I was so happy that I actually found some, I was only a little upset they were the ugliest balloons I’ve ever seen.

Of course he was thrilled, and loved his cake too. I tried to go a bit more “Shaun the Sheep” like than the last time I’d done a cake, and I think it turned out pretty well. If you’ve never tried marshmallows on cakes, they’re completely disgusting, but the kids loved it.

G also blew out a candle for the first time, and just feels SO BIG as a five year old.
