Birthday Weekend

It's special that E and I get to share a birthday weekend.  It's also a little crazy - there's a lot of celebrating to do in a small amount of time.  The good news is, we had a nice long weekend to spread out the festivities in.  Daycare was closed on Friday, which left E and I with a free day.  We started the day off by going out for breakfast, and ended the day with a birthday play date.

Saturday my parents came early to celebrate both birthdays and help us out with some yard work.  It was super hot out that day, and E got to try out his pool for the first time!  I can already tell we're going to spend a lot of the summer on the back deck splashing in his pool.

I made a lot of the decorations for E's birthday.  I'm not sure I'll have the time or energy to do it every year, but it made me happy to do it this year.  I sewed banners and table cloths and hung up pictures and banners, while Tom got some balloons for E to play with.

I also used pages from one of our favorite books as decorations.  I won't always get to choose the theme for his birthday, so I'm enjoying it while it lasts.  Birthdays are all about small details to me - personalized birthday shirts, homemade cakes, and family traditions.  It was so nice to spend so much time with him this weekend and just watch him play and laugh and be himself.  A pretty awesome birthday weekend if you ask me.
